Sibling Revelry Vocal/Keyboard Duo
“Sibling Revelry” comprises Laiya on vocals and her brother David on piano/keyboards.
They have a large and diverse repertoire of melodies - (both Covers and Originals) from Jazz, Latin, Ballads and Current Chart Hits through to Blues, Folk and of course Rock and Roll .
They come complete with PA System and their own backing music.
Sibling Revelry performs in both English and Hebrew.
Previous performances (to name just a few) include several In One Voice Concerts in Caulfield Park, The B’nai Brith, The Friendship Club at Temple Beth Israel, Jewish Care, 50th and 80th birthdays and a 50th Wedding Anniversary at Tudor Court .They have also performed at the past 3 end of year concerts for the Early Learning Centre at Bialik College. (2002 – 2004).
Laiya - a classically trained singer - has been writing songs and singing since the age of 14 years. There has always been a strong influence of jazz, folk, blues and ballads both in her songwriting and performance.
Her diversity of style encompasses a large repertoire of jazz and blues standards by artists such as Billie Holliday, Gershwin, and Garner etc.
Laiya is equally at home singing current hits, and good ol’ Rock ‘n Roll.
Laiya is backed by her brother David on piano and keyboards in Sibling Revelry. David has been playing and performing piano/keyboards since 10 years of age. He has developed his knowledge of music and music technology and production as Keyboard Manager of several Musical Instrument shops.
David also has his own business Multimedia Solutions Australia which caters to the needs of schools and individuals who have (or want to have) music technology on their computers.
Over the last 20 years or so, the duo have played such diverse venues as The Boite World Music Café, The 2003 Kosher Culture Festival,The Spoletto Festival, The Jewish Festival of the Arts, The Great Southern Sounds Festival at the Victorian Art Gallery,several “In One Voice” concerts - the largest cultural event for the Jewish Community in Australia, as well as The Port Fairy Folk Festival where they instantly drew a large crowd.
Sibling Revelry performed in February 1999 at the Mortlake Buskers Festival Competition and were finalists in their category.
In 1992, the pair wrote a song - “Just Like You - Just Like Me” which was used as the theme song for a video about children with disabilities in the Jewish Community produced by the “Access” organisation.
They have also been featured at many private functions such as: Engagements, Weddings, Bat/Bar-Mitzvahs, Birthdays, Corporate Dinners and have played in restaurants such as Marina Prior’s “Prior Engagements” (in the early 1990’s), “Sails” restaurant at the
“Bayview on the Park” Hotel and the Baby Blue Wine Bar in St. Kilda.
When Laiya writes her songs, she generally comes up with the words and melody and then collaborates with David to arrange and orchestrate the music into a finished product. It is a formula that has produced many compositions.
David and Laiya have now released their Debut CD - “First Light”.
